Stereo help needed

Hi all

I have an 11 year old Boxster fitted with a Becker CDR-22 radio and CD player.

Aside from the fascia lights, all appears to work...until I start the engine.

I then find the unit will switch itself off after random intervals (sometimes immediately). Also, sometimes the radio will switch stations randomly, and the CD will play tracks out of sequence.

Once the stereo has switched itself off, the only way to get it back on again is to switch the ignition off (problem then repeats itself). That said, yesterday it started all by itself while I was driving along!

Anything obvious spring to mind?

pull the unit and reseat all the plugs that fit into the back . May just be that the plugs have come loose or were never quite home when fitted. Worth a try before condemning the thing.

Sounds like the head unit circuit boards failing - might be worth changing the fuse on the rear of the unit, and the one in the main fuse box in the drivers footwell just in case they are throwing a wobbly with age.

You can get the head units repaired, but to be honest it'd be cheaper to find a used one one ebay or a breaker.

Tried switching the fuses, and that didn't help.Going to look for a replacement on ebay I think
