Stereo Stopped Working

I need some help, my car has a CDR 23 stereo with a CD changer. When I went to put some cd's in I found that I could not eject the cartridge but I could see a red light on inside. So I decided to disconnect it with the view that I will replace it later on. When I then turned on the stereo the power came on but no sound! So I tried to reconnect the changer but there was still no sound and the red light has stopped coming on.
Anyone had this problem or knows what may have happened?

Tirfor,

Firstly, has your CDR ever worked ?
If not, did you know, as a security measure, that the head unit (CDR23) is 'paired' to the cars ECU. In that every time you switch on, they talk to each other and the unit then works if all is ok. Just a more involved way of having it coded.
Just disconnecting the power should not effect this.
Any Unit can be paired / coded to any car, but this has to be done by Porsche or an Indi, who has the kit.

Also, if your head unit is shot, did you know the CDR 23 retails at about £650, but you can get a Becker, with built in Blue tooth for about £300

Hope this helps. Regards.

Yeah the cdr did work ok when i got the car, i think i have done something when i pulled the cd changer out.
I've found someone local who has said they can test the units to see which is at fault maybe even repair so i may get lucky!
When i disconected the stereo i tried to reconect it to see if it requested a code but it didn't. Maybe the last owner got it decoded as i couldn't find the pass code card with my paperwork.

Presumably thought that's made more complicated by the MOST bus fibre-optic thingy on the post 02 cars.

Good point. Robertb . The Becker wouldn't be an option with a CD Changer I guess. It worked for me, but I dont have anything using the Fibre Optic, (being an RS) and only wanted a Blue tooth for my phone. That works well, but like the sterio, you cant hear it if your doing over 50.

Tifor. You dont have a Code card for a CDR23. Its paired to the ECU. !!

I'm not having much luck, the company I gave the components to has just told me they are unable to test the equipment, took them a while to work that out!
Its booked into a Indy next week but I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get a wiring diagram for a late 2002 cdr 23, amp and cd changer. So i can see if i can locate the fault myself?

Is the red light the fibre optic ring that runs around the car or some other LED? Is it connected properly?

When I disconnected mine to fit the Dension iLink the CDR23 would power up but no sound. It was also the same when I connected the iLink but without power.

I concluded that you clearly need the fibre optics all connected in the ring (obviously) but also each component needs to be powered.

If it is MOST, it must be wired the same as 2003 cars. Send me an email with which system you have (Harman [M490] or Bose [M680]) and I'll attach the diagrams to a reply. It won't be until tonight though - I'm out this afternoon.

Thanks for that info David, because the company said the cd changer does power up but not in my car now. The red light looked like it was inside the unit, but i cant see it now. Maybe when I shorted it, its knocked the power out to the cd changer and thats why the sound insn't working?
Thanks Richard, the diagram may help me to find why the power to the cd changer has stopped.

Thanks to Richard and his wiring diagrams I have traced the fault back to fuse E6[:D]
I should have checked all the fuses rather than just the ones listed for the radio[:)]
Thanks to all, saved a trip to the garage!
