sticking handbrakes

I have a handbrake that once release seems to stick on, as if the cable is loose but something hasn't released, maybe the on-board drum brakes are sticking? Before I start to strip the handbrake mechanism down does anybody please have any first 'port of call' pointers as to where I should start? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it is the handbrake? It is very common to get sticky brakes when the car has been left for a while, especially if it was washed just before it was put away. You can ger a real "crack" as they release when you start to move, usually accaompanied by a slight scraping the first coule of times the brakes are applied. It is always best to take the car for a short run to 'brake the disks dry' before putting it away after washing.
