Sticking revs

Hello.

A mate of mine has an 87 3.2 cab which has a sticking revs issue. When you come to a stop and dip the clutch the revs can sometimes stick at around 1200rpm and he has to blip the throttle to get them to drop again. He had what he called the potentiometer replaced but i think he means the throttle position sensor.(or are they the same thing?) Its the part that bolts to the side of the throttle housing. But that didn't fix the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Stu

The 3.2 has an idle switch and a WOT switch, no pot.

Maybe the first plan of action would be to establish if the throttle doesn't stick. If it's not and the switches are OK then I would be looking at the oil cap seal and also loose connections/hoses.

My first port of call would be the throttle pivot on the side of the gearbox.

I had exactly the same problem - cleaning & re-greasing this pivot cured the problem. It is a well-known problem point.
