Sticking speedometer

Evening all,
Anyone got any advice on what to do to solve a sticking speedometer on a '87 Lux. It works fine except that the needle won't get off zero until about 40mph, or earlier if there is a bump in the road or can be released by just a fingertip tap on the dash? Not very annoying but I would hate to fail an MoT because of it so grateful for any suggestions.

yeah mine does this, bump on road or light tap with fingertip on top dash, assume needle or something sticking. Will follow this post with interest as it is kinda annoying. As an aside, your mans right, speedo not on MOT test. Cheers all
 
Thanks for the advice about the speedo not being an item in the MOT test, that's a relief then. Just interested if anyone has been able to fix this without having to go for a whole new instrument.
