Sticking throttle question

Is this likely to be the pedal or the bowden/throttle cable that is sticking? (Recently started it after it was sitting for a month and it hit the rev limiter; not a nice thing to do to your cold engine... Anything likely to be damaged by this, where should I be looking?)

Has it been jacked recently? If the jack is placed incorrectly it can cause the pedal to become stiff and I suspect possibly even stick.
 
Peter is right and this is very common if the car has been jacked up by the front offseide jackpoint only.

The highly technical fix is to make sure the drivers footwell is well padded with carpet and then thwack the floor with a lumphammer in front of the accelerator pedal [:eek:]

This is Porsche Repair Procedure Number R46-9J.

I learned it within a week of buying my S2.

And got the (expected) odd looks from the neighbours for some time afterwards. ("Oooooooohhhhh - look at him! Bought a swanky new Porsche and is now hitting it with a large mallet! John Cleese - come back, all is forgiven!")

Although the only jacking point the owner's manual refers to is the one centrally located on the cill, under the diamond, it's an easy mistake to make with what seems to be a jacking point at the "corner" of the car where one would expect to find one, which is only for a four-point lift (I believe).

I had to clout one of the grease-monkeys at Kwik Fit just last week with his own jack handle, after he made movements towards said point. In fairness, he prolly wasn't born when my S2 came off the production line.
 
I ended up facing the on-comming traffic a few years ago due to the tyre fitter jacking the car up on the floor. No damage to the car though only my ego !!!
 
So the circular hub at the front of the car just behind the wheel isn't a jacking point (I've been lifting several cars at that point)...?
 
No, it's one of the support points for a four point lift and is fine to use if you are spreading the load across the others. If you use just that to raise the O/S/F of the car you will more than likely bend the floor of the drivers footwell. You can support the front of the car with an axle stand under each point but I would lower the car onto the N/S/F one first and always jack the car up using the point half way along the sill that is marked with a diamond.
 
Think I normally jack it up with the jacking point and then support with jack stands, however, I couldn't swear I've never done a quick lift with the front point. Oh well, out with the mallet...
