Sticky clutch pedal on an S2

Hello all,

I am lately experiencing a sticky clutch pedal. This sticky thing only occurs on the last couple of centimeters when the clutch pedal is released. Its like a freeplay but the pedal does not fully return to its top position (only on the last few cms)

What is causing this ? Whats the remedy ?

Possibly a leak in the master cylinder, slave cylinder or the pipe joining them. If you don't know that they've been replaced then it could just be losing pressure and unable to return the pedal properly.

Are these repairable or do they have to be replaced ?

I think you can get repair kits, and I think one is a Merc part, but to be honest they aren't too expensive to buy. Assuming I'm right, of course!

ORIGINAL: Waylander
merc van kit for the slave
Volvo 740 for the master
Any more details?

Care to put as much detail as possible on this thread here:

the other thing to consider is the nylon bushes on the pedal and the assister spring are they all in the correct adjustment.

or just a bit tired out i replaced all mine not a fun job really, end of the master push rod is available as a spare part from OPC, mine was worn oval as the bushes were gone

When the Slave or master cylinder goes, they rarely leak externally - the internal seals go. This is usually evidenced by blackened fluid. Eventually the pedal can go to the floor with nothing happening.

For my pennies worth, I would also (whilst you've got the system apart) change the flexi rubber hose from the Master Cylinder to the hard pipe. Its rubber and sits directly above the exhaust, over decades of heat cycles it can collapse/perish.
