sticky gear lever on tiptronic

can any one please help? - have a boxster s 987 tiptronic 2005. Has done 33,000 miles. When on a long run the gear lever becomes very sticky / stiff and is difficult to switch between drive and reverse. Stripped the linkage at the rear by the gearbox and all is fine. Stripped the centre console to expose the selector frame with a view to cleaning it / lubricating. Spoken with a mech who says he has heard that sometime the selector frame (which is mainly plastic) can warp at temperature and that only thing is to replace it. Before I spend £147 on the part has anyone else had any experience of this problem. Thanks in anticipation - gavin

yep had exactly the same problem with my cayman s and yes repleacement is the only way to fix it.

i wasted a trip to JZM and paying to try lubricant first-then a second trip to have it replaced-its not an uncommon problem but i had no trouble with the replaced item so advse just getting it replaced right away.mine was only ever a problem when plastic/selector was warm

cheers

Cheers Dyllan, will order the part tomorrow. Looks like an easy one to fit so can save on the labour. Other than this niggle the car goes like a train and is absolutely fab to drive. Had it for over 4 years and everytime I drive it I love it! All the best, Gavin
