Sticky gearlever !?!?!?

When crusing at a constant motorway sort of speed on the motorway, I notice that when I come to change gear the gearlever is really stiff to move, almost as if its locked up in place and needs a real yank to move it. I usually notice this when I'm pulling off the motorway and changing down, and it will be hard to move out of each gear right down to first, and then a bit hard to move into the gate when changing back up.

When the gear stick does eventually move there is no banging/clunking or crunching of gears, it just seems to lock in place when I've been cruising at motorway speeds. usually needs about at least 20 - 30 mins drving to do this but sometimes does it when tootling round town.

Apart form that i don't have any problems selecting gears etc. and it appears to drive normally.

Does this sound familiar to anyone or has my car developed a yet unheard of "phantom" fault ?

I get this too, no idea what causes it & it only affects the very first 5th-neutral selection after a long cruise so I've always forgotten about it by the time I get home [:D]

I'd hazard a guess that the linkage above the exhaust dries out a bit or corrodes slightly from the lack of movement, but I had my rear linkage changed the last time my clutch was done & it still does it so imo it's the connection to the gearbox not the linkage itself.

Just guessing though & it's never been a big enough issue to cause me concern.

i wonder if its something to do with the synch mesh (or something else gear box related) getting stuck in place when its been run their for a period of time ?

I wondered if it was something to do with gear oil temperatures or something like that?(not that I would know![;)])
