sticky oil temp gauge

Hi,

Anyone had the same probs as me regarding the oil temp gauge? It reads ok then suddenly goes straight up into the red like on the stops a tap on the dash or gauge glass usually brings it back to the correct reading my local opc have checked the car and said that it is a gauge problem.............lots of money [] anyone no of a fix?

Thanks

Pete

Since the tap on the glass fixes the problem I'd guess at an electrical connection problem within or at the rear of the gauge. Got to be worth popping it out and checking. Instruments come up on eBay from time to time but I suspect it's fixable. There's a chance it COULD be the sender but it's difficult to imagine why a tap on the glass would fix THAT.

Regards

Dave

It doesn't surprise me that your OPC says it's the gauge! However before you consign it to the dustbin, check for continuity between the gauge and the sender. As Richard says it's a remarkable coincidence that when you tap on the gauge it responds. Pull the clock clean the connections and remove the connector from the sender and clean the terminals there too.
