Sticky threads - Serving & Maintenance Costs

I'm a member of a few Facebook groups and it has occurred to me there is quite difference in what some OPC's charge for maintenance items, perhaps a sticky thread with a table showing actual feedback from customers for prices paid for servicing's tyres etc, better yet even two tables with Indy's in there too!

Thoughts on this one? I believe having this here would put the power in your hands to either negotiate a better deal or switch to an OPC offering a fairer deal to customers.

Good idea Carl. Definitely should be extended to include Porsche Independents as well.

Best to approach our Register Secretary John Dickinson to ask how this could be achieved.

It's fraught with difficulties unfortunately as OPCs may offer different discounts to different customers based on whether it's a mate of theirs, a discount as goodwill after an issue, a full price service because you're a difficult customer etc. There is no one set price for all at each OPC.

As always, shopping around yourself will usually get the best result for you. I don't see how hearing that Joe Bloggs got a 6yr service done at OPC Somewhere for £500 helps you get the same deal!

The difficulties you mention can be easily be managed, I'm pretty handy with Excel so producing something that records PCGB discount, special discounts etc is not a problem. The idea is we get a picture of what OPC's are consistently charging well above the going or 'fair' rates and what OPCs seem to be the lower. It gives people the choice and information to challenge the price, or go somewhere else. You seem pretty content to accept the status quo and that's OK, I myself like to make informed decisions.

I think you've missed my point. I believe prices for comparison are not set at the OPC level, it can be quite a bit more granular than that, so you can't really say as a general rule use OPC A and avoid OPC B [:)]

Well I have had two different quotes for an oil change from two OPC's in the same 'Dealership' umbrella so I don't think I've missed anything!

I reckon I could get quite different quotes from my usual OPC and another I've never used before within the same chain - this is the point I'm trying to make, obviously very poorly [:)]

And this is the information I'm trying to get out there! All this smoke and mirrors can be cleared with a little knowledge.
