Make sure the mechanism is free and operates correctly. Also, spray inside the door cavity. Clean the door (wax, polish) the door where the handle fits, you will never have a better opportunity to clean these areas. Refit handle to door. (As it states in the manuals 'Refitting is the reversal of the removal procedure'). Rebuild door trims etc. Find the First Aid kit so you can put plasters on the grazed knuckles and other cuts. Lastly, stand back and admire your work. Remind yourself to spray the door handles with WD40 on a regular basis.
Cheers,
That's about right. I'd be tempted to wash the mechanisms with some paraffin or gunk to get the grot out, and use some slightly heavier waterproof grease on them as well (renolit, or the like.)ORIGINAL: Fred Hindle
Remove the handles from the car, give them a good spraying with WD40 to remove dirt etc. Apply grease (tin of spray grease is probably easiest way to do it.

But broadly, remove, clean, lubricate, refit, admire handiwork. (While you are in there, it's worth cleaning and lubricating the latch mechanism as well, and spraying some of that spray grease on the hinges too. Just makes the whole job so much better.)

... worth taking a bit of care with this - the centre console is not the most robust thing in the world, and I wouldn't trust it to bear the weight of a climbing-over passenger ...ORIGINAL: 944psi
I need to do this. The passenger door handle now refuses to work. The locking button won't move either. Made carrying a passenger very amusing the other day as they had to climb in and out through the drivers side. Almost a Dukes of Hazzard moment.
