Stiff tiptronic selector

Can anyone advise if it is possible/advisable to lubricate the tip selector? I got into my 996 after a while away and the selector was quite stiff, I managed to get D selected and it drove great, but sliding acress to manual was hit and miss and putting back into P took a few goes so that I could get the key out. If lubricate is required what would be best and where?
Thanks for any advise.

When I had a similar problem it was a linkage at the back of the gearbox where the cable joins onto the gearbox. Check this first as Porsche charged me £450 to replace the cable as they said the inner cable had worn through the outer protective sheathing. Hope this helps
