Stone chip evening 19/11/2015

There are times when I question my sanity... removing badge panels at 11pm in the dark, wind, and rain is one of those occasions!

Nevertheless, I now have at least one panel removed, cleaned (ish!) and ready for us to have a go with the various stone-chip remedies tomorrow night. Both of the panels I hope to have need a proper respray anyway, so no worries about mistakes, and there are certainly plenty of stone chips on this first one, so come and have a go before tackling your own car! All in the comfort of the George Albert Hotel.

See you all there.

Believe me, the two panels I have will make yours look good! One of them has covered just shy of 200k miles that I know of without paint, and quite possibly 344k. The other has covered about 200k miles, but has been previously painted. The third has been bolted on my car, as I can't see any chips! There probably will be by tomorrow evening, but I'm not unbolting it in the car park - hopefully two panels should be enough - there are plenty of chips to go around! (there, that should fool some people into thinking there is food - that should ensure numbers are up!)

An interesting evening! I did a quick demo with the Chipex products and then left all to it. Some members expected miracles in 5 minutes. But with a bit of patience good results could be achieved.
One of Tref's panels! Where to start?

Because the panels are removed, I took them to my local, um, "less than perfect" body work guy, and he has quoted me £40-50 each to strip them back and repaint them. Cheap because he can rub them down between other jobs etc, where-as if they were attached to a car it would have to be done in one hit, and would exclude other stuff from the workshop. I figure since it is just paint rather than bodywork exactly, he should be ok.. I can bring them along to a meeting when they are done if people are interested in a comparison, but hopefully it adds some perspective to the costs and point at which it might be worth saying you are better off getting it sprayed.
