stone chip side vinyls

I am contemplating a spot of diy on the my narrow body 993 - the clear side vinyls need replacement. Anybody undertaken this themselves - do they peel off easily (leaving the paint behind!)? Are the new ones easily positioned and adhered correctly? Any advice gratefully received.

If you mean the one's on the rear wheel arch - they can be a bit of a nightmare - my car is currently at Shorade in Cannock (Porsche approved bodyshop) and they are having a nightmare with these - apparently they are not clear but painted???

I have one waiting to be fitted in the car at present. I can assure you they are clear.

Not neccesarily Mark. Having a quick look at PET the stone guard foils for the narrow bodied cars seem to be available in Grand Prix White, Polar Silver, Arctic Silver and Glacier White as well as Clear. It depends on the year of the car. They are not painted - just coloured through.

Shorade is linked to OPC Sutton Coldfield - got to say though that I didn't think that the rear arch covers were painted.

They are clear vinyl on mine.

Perhaps mine are clear because I have a blue car. How strange.

Ooooooooo,

oh fountain of knowledge what are the part numbers for the silver ones as mine are a bit yellowee!

Gordon,

There are too many to sort through without knowing specifically which ones you need. Here's a link to a PET pdf so you can pick the right one yourself. The page is at http://www.computamedic.co.uk/Porsche/Images/Stone%20Guard.pdf

I'm surprised you don't have a copy of PET - or even the downloadable PDF version.

BTW I suspect the reason Porsche produced them in the imbedded colours is for exactly the point you make - the clear ones yellow over time and would stand out on a light coloured car whereas they are lerss obvious on the darker colours.

Dave

Thanks Dave, I'm in Hamburg at the moment so no access. Plenty of Porsches and there was a 964 cab in viola parked outside the marriott earlier today!

Just need to remember whether mines Artic or Polar now for some reason I never remember, mines the one with the brown'ish tint not the blue'ish tint!!

I do have a PET, but for the 964!!

I may have had the Porsche link for the 993 PET on my old laptop which died 2 weeks ago

Had mine replaced by JZ Machtech about a year ago. My car is Arctic Silver and they were definitely colour-matched.
