Stone Chips (Again)

I remember a post about touching-in stone chips and particularly an American product that helped make the touch-in less visible. Can anyone remember either the post or the product? (Picked up my 1st stone chip on the way back from Gaydon at the weekend).

For chips I would just go for the actual "blob remover" product itself ($29.99 for the large one). You don't need the kit with the other bits and bobs.

I have also used the "scratch remover kit" (for fine scratches) which is quite good, but some 2000 grit wet'n dry from a motor factors, plus some t-cut would probably do as well. This one actually abrades (unlike the blob remover) and really requires GREAT care though!

Just looked up the link you left thanks looks good.

Did you get your touch up paint from your OPC?

How good was the finish when you did it?

Thanks Mark, I'll be getting some Langka, but first I need some touch up paint and getting GT silver metallic is proving quite difficult!

I used the OPC touch up. But the instructions say let dry for an hour - I find a day or 2 to be nearer the mark!
Cut most of the bristles off the touch up brush - or use a 00 or 000 paintbrush to apply. Only put the paint in the chip.
Try not to get excess paint around the chip - it says "just put a blob over the chip". DON'T! The paint will react with the touch up paint and raise it up a little. Horrible!

Use the finest weave pure cotton you can find for the cloth. We bought a baby's pillow case to cut up.
You can use the card as a flat backing or not - but you can mark the car if you get the angle on the card wrong. I find it easier to just use the cloth over a fingertip and a small dab of langka on the cloth. you can feel when the blob has gone.
Use the tiniest amount on the cloth - too much will not help - and do NOT put it on the chip and leave for more than a minute or two. It will react with the base paint and actually seems to raise the original paint up as with the touch up paint above ...[:'(]

The Langka will dry on the car in an area spread around the (ex) chip. Use Auto Glym tar remover to get rid of it (you will need to re-wax though if you do this!)

Try it on the "other car" first (but only if clear-coated).

With care, the finish is perfect. The chip will be invisible.

Cut most of the bristles off the touch up brush - or use a 00 or 000 paintbrush to apply. Only put the paint in the chip.
Reading elsewhere it was suggested that a fresh toothpick be used with the touch up to ensure it only goes in the chip, a fresh one for each application. Sounds a nice job for the winter months.

re GT Silver I'm going to collect a touch up paint from the OPC tomorrow - it's been on back order - also going to let them have a look at the damage and advise.
just off to the Langka link (cheers Mark) - hope the car is going well

PS Black boxster - good for hiding chips but not dirt
