Stone chips...

I' ve only covered 1500 miles in my C2S although it is accumulating stone chips on the front PU at an alarming rate - is this normal for 993' s?

In contrast, my Black BoxsterS had very few stone chips, if any, after 2 years and 20,000 miles of motoring.

Could it be a paint problem with my car?

Thanks,
Pete

I don' t know if the paint on your 993 is soft but I think you may have just been lucky with the Boxster!

I' ve just had £3500 of OPC paintwork done on mine to get rid of all the chips. It' s already picked up 2 chips, although very very small and out of sight - its still annoying []

Have you thought about Armourfend protection?

...if you want me to test the durability of your paint over another 1500 miles, please feel free to ask!!! [;)]

It will depend on when Porsche changed to water based paints, the EU introduced legislation on water based paints about 3 years ago, with periods of grace for manufacturers to switch over.

Increasingly now most manufacturers are on water based paint so the problems will get worse. The notable exception to this, is Range Rover, who ship their bumpers in from a plant in France. Who had just opened when the new regs came in. They were given a five year period of grace, so I was informed, by Engineering at Gaydon last year. So in two years they must switch as well.

Typically therefore cars over three years old are more resilient to chipping damage.

Hope this helps
