Stone damage to rear brake disc - 991.2 C2

A stone got between the rear disc and the pads. It’s left a circular scar on the disc of about 2 mm across and at the most 1mm deep. Brakes appear to be working fine in normal driving and with heavy braking. There’s no obvious pull to the side.

Anyone else have this problem and did it necessitate replacing the disc? Is it dangerous as is?

Assuming we are talking about steel brakes here, it is unlikely to have become wedged between pad and rotor. It's more likely to have lodged in upper part of the calliper between the backing plate and disc surface.

It's surprisingly common and usually nothing much to worry about as light disc scoring is perfectly acceptable. However, for peace of mind, it may be worth checking pad condition as Ralph has suggested. [;)]

Thanks Lancerlot and ralphmusic for the quick replies. From your comments it doesn’t look like I need to do anything urgently. The car is going in for it’s first service in 2 weeks so I’ll get OPC to check it out but I’d assume they would check the brakes anyway as part of the service

............why do I sense a possibility of a big bill?
