Stooopid Question: Fuel Flap locking

Hi all, silly question time; the key plippers for my 986 don't work (will get one replaced when i get a job, currently 'resting' after Voluntary Redundancy)
so I have to lock/unlock using the key, which is fun as you get about 10 seconds to switch the ignition on before the alarm goes off.

anyhoo, there appears to be some randomness to the locking of the fuel flap, sometimes when i go to fill up it is unlocked and opens easily, other times it is locked and I have tried every combination of locking and unlocking the car both from the key and the dash button, with the keys in the ignition and out. In that case I have found that the lock mechanism is all rubber anyway so sticking two fingers behind the flap and applying brute force and extreme psychology usually gets it open... But I am worried that if my Wife needs to fill up when she is using it she won't be able to do that.

so, ladies and gents, how do I unlock it?!! [:)]

Jeremy,

Isn't there a manual release somewhere on the A-post? Have a look in your driver's manual; there may be some instructions there.

It sounds as though the solenoid in the filler flap actuator is only working intermittently. A bad connection maybe?

There is a pushrod that locks the fuel flap. This mechanism is prone to failure.

If you wanted to avoid being locked out you could cut off the rod, but be aware that your fuel cap won’t ever lock again... and when things improve you can replace the module.

Thanks all, the pushrod is fairly free to move, I presume it is solenoid controlled, so will take a closer look at the weekend
