Stop Light [Additional]

I'm rather taken with the idea of fitting / locating a high level / additional Stop Light as shown!

What is the view of the Forum?

Was it ever original Porsche fitting?

Would it be considered acceptable to retro-fit the unit?

Has anyone fitted one?

How difficult might it be to fit?

Where would I get one?

What kinda cost?

Indeed a subject close to my heart!!!!.....I was in LA recently and visited a specialist dealer called Westside Porsche in Santa Monica, he has several cars in his lot with this 3rd light, some without rear wing, and a staight forward fit, and some with the t tray and an additional adapter to sit/fit on both tray and boot.

When I showed interest , the guy gave me the brochure of the company that provides this light, but when I contatced them, they were uncomfortable to now supply the fittings for a t tray car.

Should you resolve this yourself, please keep me in mind and let me know!

Hi,

My US spec 86 convertible had one installed as standard

If you can find someone with access to the PET CD (not too hard) they should be able to give you the original part no

I think it would look really naff and would not be possible to fit high enough to be effective anyway.(IMHO of course)

Graham

that cracks it. Your humble opinion eh! I'm dialling 01793615888 right now! [;)]

I think they are great those third eye lights. I bought one on US eBay and it was tea tray (hadn't even ocurred to me to ask TBH), so resold it and have been looking for a flat mount one ever since, not an easy thing to come by it would seem...

I thought if you put (IMHO) you could say anything and get away with it[;)]
Seriously though on the subject of brake lights, I do not think that there is any point having a third light unless its at a high enough level to be seen by cars behind the one following you. If they are at eye level then all you do is blind the person following anyway. This is why I hate Ford Focus's.

W.A.D.R, I don't think you're being 'umble enough! [;)]. You need to try 'arder! I think it would be practical and look just fine.

Alan / Pete / Graham (Ford) the part number is on P.E.T. (Whatever that means? - In my early computer days it meant Personal Elecrtonic Tranactor!) and availability, suitability and cost is being checked on.

R.

PS - Don't you just hate acronyms!

Hi, Here's a photo of mine fitted standard to my US spec. '88 cabriolet, looks fine.
Cheers Jon

I remember seeing those third brake light things in San Francisco. I assumed that they must be compulsory out there cos they look so naff and gay and nobody in the right minds would want to spoil the pure lines of the perfect machine with such a monstrosity.

Kind Regards

J50
sitting on the fence as usual...

J50 was a bit harsh (IMHO) but have you considered the effect that such an appendage will have on the aerodynamics of the car?

And please remember Richard..You live in Wiltshire..not Essex.[]

You may get lucky and get a Halfords voucher for Christmas, then you could buy a couple of extra fog lights and wire them up to the braking loom and go cruising around the local supermarket carpark at night .[:'(]

I applied the formula Di = Cdi x S x 1⁄2 rV2, and you aint gona believe this, but fitting the unit under discussion will actually reduce the drag. Difficult to believe I know, but there ya go ............ !

R.

Richard,
thats amazing, I've checked the formula and what can I say other than I must bow down in the face of superior knowledge and intellect. Please accept my humble and grovelling apology. I should have realised that you wouln't contemplate fitting such an item without calculating the coefficient dwang effect it would have, and using the Van Munchhausenscheisser formula........brilliant!
I bet Richard B wouldn't have thought of that.[:D]
How many extra BHP do you reckon it will give you?.

And was it Porsche Ag OEM?

Yes it was. Keep an eye on US eBay, you will find one on there for under a tenner (though none on at the minute).
