Stopping the stone chips....

I saw a 996 with a cover over the front (I think they call them bras ?) at the weekend and wanted to know if anyone knew where to get one from for track days

You can get them from the USA - try PerformanceProducts.com

I am curious why do people think one is more likely to get chips on track than on the road? Unless you plant it in the gravel I fail to see the reasoning?

Guys,

I know its sounds weird, but I'm sure the front bumper of my car looks worse for wear after a trackday.

I did Silverstone the other week with RMA, and there was s*@t flying everywhere !!
I must admit that a lot of it was bits of rubber, which shouldn't make these chips, but
if you think about it, these sticky bits of tyre coming up at you at 100mph ++ would
more than likely have a fair amount of grit/stones attached to them, hence the
chips ????

I'm hoping to get a GT3 in the near future, and when I do, I'm going to try one of these
clear plastic covers for the front end to prevent this. Anyone with any experience
with these ??????

I don't like the 3m film products that can be applied to the car, but something I do like, is Incero Trackshield.
I tried it as an early development item, and at that time it was not waterproof (rain!)
However when it dried out it still offered a LOT of protection.
You just use a small paint roller to apply the stuff, it dries clear (but textured), and you peel it off after.
Great stuff!

I managed to get one in the end from TYPE 911.

In my experience there tends to be more gravel on the track than on normal roads and when you get bunched up you pick them up.

type911 do colgan bras - I have one (see avatar photo <- ).

As for chips on track, tracks tend to start off clean, but after a while someone puts a wheel off the tarmac, goes into the gravel and drags all sorts of crap back onto the track (especially in the wet)! You also tend to sit a lot closer to the car in front on track, so if something does get thrown up then it will hit you - and hard.

Saying that, my biggest chips before I got the bra were all on the road - I also put the bra on if I'm doing a large number of motorway miles.....looks daft I know, but cheaper than a respray!

Fair enough - I guess I tend not to follow anyone too close on the track, and usually go over any gravel myself only (wincing!) so the nose doesn't get targeted too much.
Then again the track days I have done tended to be fairly quiet, so there was room to move.

Don't forget your mirror bras as well!
