Straight thro' exhaust.

Has anybody any experience of having a straight though exhaust right from the manifold to the rear box ?

My Turbo has a straight pipe in place of the front box and it's a little louder than standard, but the rear box does most of the silencing and the turbo itself keeps it quiet too.

One of the welds on my S2 cat keeps splitting every year and I keep having it welded up, but on Wednesday a local place are cutting out the cat and welding in a straight pipe. I'll let you know how it sounds. If I have time I'll make a before and after video

We tried this a few years ago, the noise was quite unpleasent, a little louder than I preferred but the problem was a nasty drain pipe sort of resonance and a loss of torque. I have videos of this somewhere but they're poor quality and actually make it sound quite good. We ended up just removing the middle silencer (I think) and that was great considering the cost (i.e nothing but a bit of welding and some scrap pipe [:D]). It felt slightly more eager to rev and was a little more fruity sounding than standard.

Depends on the stock design you have. I replaced the cat on my S2 with a straight SS pipe and a bit later the rear system with an OEM rear system from an OPC. I really like it, it drones a little at speed but to be honest it is only slightly louder then the bone stock exhaust on my 968 and if you look at 968's all those guys are fitting louder exhausts.

It measured 89 dB at the track for example.

Note that the S2 rear system has a small box in front of the rear suspension and then the large rear box.
