Strange Fan Noise behind dash

Hi All,

My car has an intermitent noise which sounds like the heater fan is running but the fan is switched off. When i do turn the heater fan on it comes on and goes off as normal so i know its not that. It's not engine related as it can come on just when ignition is on and stays running when the car is started and only happens on occasion. The car has been sitting for 4 weeks without moving and was fine when it was last used.

It does sound like it coming from behind the dash.

Any ideas? I'm stumped! [:mad:]
 
If it is from the area of the glovebox, there is a small fan there which draws air through the cabin temperature controller. You can see the vent for it in the dashboard trim panel. That fan runs constantly.
