Strange noise when booting it

To be fair I don't boot it very often, but in the last week of so noticed (couldn't miss it unless deaf) a strange noise when heading towards and upwards of 4000rpm...it's like a sort of thumping noise similar to when driving over the white lines on the edge of the motorway, coming from the cars rear.
Any hypothesis please?
Cheers

I'm guessing there can be a number of causes some of which are cheaper than others.
Exhaust fouling on something is one possibility caused by the suspension squat. Happened on mine though the noise was amidships rather than from the rear.
I imagine drive shafts and CV joints might be mentioned.
Other things to check are the really simple things in life - spare wheel, tool kit, jack etc which might react differently under load than in normal driving.
I like to live with the ideal of simplicity and easy fixes though it could always be something really catastrophic []
Best of luck,
Mick

Cheers mate, I bet it's knackered...I can check my boot for loose things although I don't think it's that. I'll pootle round for the time being.

I had a similar thing when I bought a new 2nd Focus a couple of years ago, only noticed the steady white line "thumpthumpthump" at high speed, pottering round town it was fine. Turns out one of the rear tyres had a big flat spot on it (quite literally, it had a massive chunk gouged out). Might be worth a quick look just to be sure.

Are you sure it's coming from the back ?????

Are you sure it's not the wife screaming ?

LOL
