Strange noise

Well having fun driving the car done 400 miles on the new engine

so I have a strange woo woo woo noise from the rear its speed dependent and not engine related still there if I dip the clutch....it starts after about 3 miles and disappears after 10 miles

any guesses ?

Wheel bearing?

CV joint?

I'm assuming these are all new on your car so shouldn't be doubted but if there's a noise, there's a noise!

Yes new OEM bearings. The cv joints are not new but greased and they looked OK

starnge that the noise is intermittent and very loud .....but only lasts for a few minutes and doesn't come back till every thing has cooled then warmed up

Are the CV joints correctly orientated? There is a circumferential groove. I can't remember whether the groove should be towards the outside or the inside without checking but a starting point would be to check that the left side mirrors the right. I can stick my head under mine tomorrow and check if you want.

guess it could be many things....cv joints click so doubt it's those, could be something rubbing? perhaps check that the brake dust shields are well away from the discs...a video for the sound might help?

does sound like a rear wheel bearing by your description. A good diagnostic test is to take a long tight bend (in both directions), which will load the wheel bearing on the opposite side to the direction of the bend.

if you coast round the bend in neutral you'll eliminate the engine or transmission being the source of the problem.

I had a similar sound to this, prepared to do a new rear wheel bearing - on starting the job realised one of the rear hub nuts had worked itself slightly loose. Suspect a previous owner's repair hadn't torqued up properly and slowly worked itself loose. Might be worth a quick check.

Sorry not been around much I will drive it again the weekend see what happens

ready with the phone to record the noise

Well done another 200miles and No noise!

with so much knowledge on this forum they say posting on here is the best way to solve 944 problems ...Wow it works mine sorted without the need for any tools[:D]
