strange problem

Hi, today I was just on my way back through town and I thought my car was about to stall, It was like i was running out of petrol yet the tank was nearly half full.
I gave it lots of revs and managed to make it into the side road turned the engine off and back on again, it seemed okay and made it home again.
Now the fuel pump was fitted 6 months ago back the last owner I have checked the records.
Does anyone have an idea of what may have caused this?

also my car ticks over at about 2 lines below the big 1 is that okay? its ticking over just over the 3rd level .

Idle should be 700rpm, give or take 20rpm.

I would get a diagnostic check done, to see if there are any fault codes present. Could be the MAF, a vacuum leak, fuel pressure...............

thanks, yeh i suspected it may be the fuel pressure however the air filter is really bad, full of crap, I wonder if that would cause the sluggy jumping today, anyhow not going to clean it, will get new tomorrow.

thanks.

changed the filter, amazing, much quicker, noise gone.
might get an after market filter, k&n? anyone had experience with after market filters.

No - don't do it - do a search on here - bu66ers up the MAF I think someone said.

I had one on a MKII Escort RS2000 about 25 years ago... all it did was make a loud sucking noise and no improvement in performance :-(

The cold air induction kit they sell will give an improvement in induction noise, but take any performance claims with a pinch of salt. You can achieve a very similar effect for about £0.50 by removing the resonance chamber in the airbox, and blocking off the Y branch to it on the inlet hose. There are plenty of DIYs on RennTech, and one of the chaps on here also wrote up a mod a couple of years ago.

I personally would avoid fitting an oiled air filter like the plague, as if it is over-oiled it can damage the MAF.

thanks for that, I do have the pse and the noise is great but i want to "upset" everyone in the morning :)
I will have a look over there, thanks man.
