hi there... i just bought a 1997 1 gen boxster 82,000 miles.. im a first time porker

seems in good condition but few things...

everytime im at 1000 rev there's a rattling noise on acceleration. this totally disappears after passing the 1000 figure. any idea what this might be :s ?

ive also noticed the carpet is wet behind the passenger seat... which i assume is the water coolant leaking? is this possible to fix yourself?

thank you for your help

Wet carpet - if its just behind the seats then either one of the drains under the clamshell is blocked or one of the foam drain liners in that same area is either becoming detached or is breaking up through age. You need to get this sorted asap as their is a rather expensive control module under the passenger seat ! You can clear drains with either an air line or some thinnish plastic coated wire (bend the end over to prevent damaging the drain tube). Also check the carpet at the bottom of the door cards - if these are wet then the plastic membrane inside the door has split or is detached.

Rattling - could be anything from a simple loose exhaust heat shield to something more serious - exhaust heat sheilds can be rerivetted easily with the car raised slightly off the ground.

Congrats on your purchase - a few early characteristics, but hopefully nothing too arduous to resolve.

What speed are you doing at 1000 revs? From a standing start?

Water : door membranes, check nr door sill for water build up.
Rattling - heat shield plate above catalysts usually comes loose.

Both are cheap and easy to fix - did the former myself on my Boxster.

thanks for your quick response

speed is from 0- 10 mph

the noise almost sounds like the exhaust scrapping the floor

thanks goofy...

any good places in west london i can take my car too? somewhere trusted and where i can raise the points listed above

cheers

Rattling either heat shields or sensors bolted into exhaust - had both, and both easily sorted (even diy).

West London - GT One, Chertsey.
