strange sound behind driver side door

when i shut door on rs clubsport i can hear something knocking behind passenger door--seemingly between door and engine compartment. it knocks twice when i shut door. very strange. any thoughts? thanks kenny

Confused which door side you mean - your title says driver, the thread says passenger.

If the knocking sound is coming from between the door and the engine compartment on the passenger side (right hand side)...

Has your carbon canister come loose up inside the right rear wheel arch? (I'm assuming our cars have one like the standard 964*.) Sometimes the clamp can corrode which lets it swing free which might explain two knocks when the door is closed.

There was a write-up about this in Paul Davies' 'Our Cars' section in Nov 07 P&911World.

*Just checked 964PET catalogue and a carbon canister is shown but I've looked at my car and can't see one. Maybe it was deleted for the RS.

Pay attention Herr Anorak! It's a Clubsport thus it's LHD ...... the noise is the Ghost of Kaiser Badger von Grossen - Armco from the House of Nurburg giving a coded message by tapping the Matter Cage, which roughly translates to....

"Keepen ich unter der Schwarzen Strasse Dumkopf"

des, hi, i met you at mph, i have the signal green clubsport and a devilish brood of boys, in english, what do you think sound can be? it just occurred after a valet where they used a power sprayer, could that be culprit that loosened something? thanks! kenny

Thanks Des, next you'll be telling me the engine's in the back! [;)]

But the post says 'behind driver side door' in the title, but 'behind passenger door' in the thread. So which is it? [&:]

When you push the car body from side to side can you recreate the sound? I'd guess something is loose inside the rear wheel arch, I'd start by checking there kenny.

MY FAULT, drivers side. no sound when you try and rock car, but it sounds like a bulb or possibly canister when you shut door. you even hear when you close passenger door. thanks all!

If it was a C4 I would say it is the movement sensor, but it aint. Check cables/oil pipes under rear wheel arches. Maybe prize door cards off at base and check for loose objects in bottom of door.

Good hunting and keep us posted!![;)]

Is it more of a click? If so, i think you'll find there is a flap that releases the air pressure inside the car when you close either door. Don't quote me on it, i may be wrong.

Kenny sorry for the jokey reply, my philosphy is it's a N-GT and drive it enough the sound will go. To be honest I am as always clueless, just know every time I go out in mine a different sound occurs.

However, very pleased to meet up, both in London and have a listen. 07768 814264 There is an East London Meet on the 17th November bring Kermit...

What a fantastic car you have Kenny, probably the best N-GT on the Planet....by the way my Ghost theory could be right![;)]

problem is i haven't driven it a lot yet; and its driving me nuts. re 17th would be happy to join but may be traveling. sign me up for next meet!
