Strange substance?

Check your coolant expansion tank for reduced coolant levels. They are prone to hairline cracks at the bottom, or for the cap to leak (if it's the cap you might see white residue around the collar).
 
Thanks Rodney, I've done some research and reckon this is the problem. Would you say the car is still driveable as long as I keep a close eye on the coolant levels?
 
I'd get it changed ASAP, the tank is around £90 from Eurocarparts then add a couple of hours labour and coolant.

Mine cracked on my C4, steam poured out of my tank as I was driving along as air bubbles entered the system. You don't want to be towed away or risk engine damage.
