Stress fractures

Hello all,

Over the last couple of months we've noticed stress fractures appearing underneath the headlights and around the sides of the front bumper. We bought the car (an '02 996 C2) about 6 months ago from an OPC and it's done about 23k The fractures have worsened recently and are now about 5 inches wide and quite noticeable.

Is this to be expected? I can't recall seeing this on other cars but then I don't suppose I have looked that closely.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Nigel

Nigel,

Really sorry to hear that. I've never heard of it before - you mean cracks in the plastic bumper?
Have you got any photo's you could post?

Hi Nigel,
Are they identical with both Left and Right side lights? I suspect this is a case of someone accidently reversing into your car when parking...[] but the pictures may show otherwise...

This is very odd. Looks as if someone has taken a key or other sharp metal implement to the plastic, I have only seen such marks created by my more criminally minded clients.

Is the car still under warranty? If so ask the OPC which sold it to you to investigate. It might be due to some pre-existing condition.

Might be a result of a cheap fix done after vandalism which usually show up after a while... best to show it to an OPC though...

Thanks all. OPC want their bodyshop guy to look at it.

To me it looks like an existing problem that was poorly fixed - it's definitely been 'developing'.

If that turns out to be the case, I won't be happy we've been sold an 'patched up' car by an OPC but are they likely to do anything about it?

Update:

Finally got to the bottom of this - it was apparantly just down to paint underneath not being baked properly and moving, when the paint on top was hard and therefore cracked. Thankfully there were no horror stories uncovered!

The car is being collected today by the OPC and repaired at their expense.Which is nice!

This problem is basically down to however repaired the car rushing the job, it's not a problem but probably not what youd expect from an opc?

Ant.
