Strut braces again

Hi

Has anyone every used a Sparco or OMP brace on there 964?

Or, does anyone know if there any good?

Thanks

Rob

Rob,

Unless you're counting ounces I suspect there's not much between one strut brace and another. Some use two bolt fixing per side and some use 3 (my KLA uses 3). I'd expect all are adjustable so you can set the tension correctly and some are aluminium and some are carbon fibre but, at the end of the day, they all stop the turrets moving apart and together. I got mine from Simon at Essential Styling (http://www.essentialstyling.com/) and it seems fine. It also fits UNDER the carpet so it's not so great for the "bling" factor but it's neat.

Sorry I couldn't specifically answer your question - but, hey, I'm trying to help!!!

See you soon.

Regards

Dave

You should be able to fit the strut over the carpet for that bling factor Dave!! I don't have that problem though -no carpet!!

Rob -you'll find that a strut brace will immediately tighten up the front of the car, and may even rule out a small amount of understeer.

Thanks Gents

I am going to fit one, but being a tight arse I wondered if a £80 sparco brace would do the same job as a £150 one.

In your honest opinions, should I give a meal a week and get a more expensive one?

You and me both Rob!!!

My internet searches turned up the cheaper Sparco one & I was thinking of getting one. I've asked around and most people seem to think that any strut brace will be sufficient - especially as I'll not be wanting to make adjustments for diffent types of circuit etc.

Let us know if you order one.....

I thought the biggest camber change was due to the top mountings moving under cornering forces ? Perhaps the best upgrade (but less "bling?") is to move to RS upper strut mounts - these are solid. Surely, if the inner wings are held solid, but the top mounts are free to move, then camber change will still make itself felt ?

Just a thought

In my continuing search I have found that the cheapest one is the Sparco one which is unfortunately not too attractive.

The OMP one is also very cheap but only listed to fit a 993 and the OMP tech help bods can't say if it will fit a 964 or not (?!?). It's a shame because the OMP one looks really smart in polished alloy.

Would a 993 spec strut brace fit a 964?

Steve,

I "believe" that it IS the case that the 993 brace also fits the 964. You can tell that I'm not ABSOLUTELY sure but I AM sure that someone else might chime in with a more definitive answer. Someone like Simon at Essential Styling would be sure to know since he sells them.

That's quite interesting, especially as OMP didn't know if theirs would fit!
What would be the advantage be: - of one of yours for £149 over an OMP one for £80?
I appreciate that the Carbon Fibre would look good, but wondered about other benefits.

Steve

PS. Good luck with your magazine.
