Stuck Rear Spoiler

Hi

Starting this morning the rear spoiler will not lower

Dashboard warning light goes out once you drive off, and never comes on again (should come on if the spoiler does not retract?)

Manual switch has no effect

Fuse 37 (correct one?) is OK - any other simple checks to do, or common problems?

cheers

Pete

Pete,

I recall somebody else mentioning that the On Board Computer (OBC), when set to Km not Miles had an effect on the rear spoiler...... Check out the previous posts if you have the OBC.

Charlie is absolutely right. When Steve Belcher bought his 993 Targa, he thought he had a problem insofar as his spoiler would not lower. When he switched his on board computer back on to MPH, it worked perfectly. My 993 was just the same.Hope this helps.

Hi

I don't have OBC on the car. The manual switch does not work either, Thanks for the suggestion anyway

Cheers

Pete

Happened to mine. It was the little micro-switch sticking in the spoiler, and bet yours is the same.

If you look under the spoiler on the left hand side, there is a semi-circular plastic cover held on by 2 or 3 screws. If you take that cover off, you'll see that there are two little switches that stop the spoiler at each end of its travel. On mine, the rear most one had stuck in, which stopped the spoiler lowering, as on yours. I just sprayed a little wd40 on it, and pressed it in and out a few times, and since that it works perfectly. With luck yours is the same simple fix?

Well it took me a couple of days to get around to it in the end, but you were spot on - this was exactly the problem - thanks for the tip [:)]

Hi - to add more clarity, the Semi Circular plastic cover referred to is this item:

Thanks again Will

I'm really pleased that it was the same simple problem on your car! When mine went, I thought oh... here we go... new spoiler gear, or repair and several hundred pounds coming, but a little bit of exploration and it was fixed in seconds, which was very satisfying. Thanks for posting photo, as it does make it clearer which semi-circular (sort of) bit of plastic I was talking about.
