Stuck spoiler on a 2013 3.0 Pan

Hi Gents

My Pan has the spoiler stuck in the up position. I have no light on the manual switch, the fuses are ok, there no noise like the motor is trying to work. I fear it maybe water ingress as it failed a few hours after a wash. I can't check as I don't know how to get the spoiler blade off the car to access the control unit or motor. I'm sure there's a relay somewhere, I can't find it and it's not in the fuse box, I've heard these are not good quality and maybe the issue.

There seems to be a massive lack of information on the net re-Panamera's, especially the 3.0L. So, if anyone knows the location of data, it would be helpful.

I don't really want to take it to Porsche or RPM if I can fix it myself, so any help on diagnosis, getting access or spare parts if needed would be appreciated.

I agree. I have a 3.0 as well. Go to the Porsche PIWIS site & you can pay €10 per hour to download the factory manual. I’d guess it’ll be in there.
 
P.S. if you have a Mac, you might need to clear you cache, cookies etc. I had to do that to get on it.
 
Thanks, I've checked the site but can't get on the PAGI as there is an extensive document required to be completed in German by an authorised importer. You're right, access is 10 Euros an hour, if I can get on it.

You also might want to try taking it for a quick drive, get above 75mph and back (it Auto retracts once it has been up to about that even if it has been manually extended, so there is a chance it could reset all by itself). Or press sports plus. same deal.


Finally have you got any kind of code reader? The spoiler is controlled by the rear end control module. Any faults logged there may point you in the right direction. You can also reset it / calibrate etc.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. I'll take a look at the information on-line and the subscription data.

I tried driving the car above 75mph, but the spoiler remains up and the spoiler failure message remains until the speed drops below 57mph.

I have a professional code reader, it doesn't show any fault code directly related to the spoiler, just a sunroof calibration error. The sun roof is working fine.

No problem. If you are in the south West (Bath) I’ll happily scan it for you. Sunroof fault seems spurious- maybe it’s mis-reporting the spoiler as the sunroof. Failure to retract and an error message would definitely generate an error code.
 
Here's the fault codes I get from the diagnostics.

Code: 8101E Spoiler Motor Speed Sensor faulty - state: Inactive
Code: C13314 Communication with slide/tilt roof (Rear 1) - state Active
Code: C11007 Calibration - state Active

I can't seem to understand how to get the rear spoiler blade off the car so I can access the plastic box, which could be the control unit. Information on the net shows a series of screws on the back edge of the spoiler. However, on my car there appears to be a plastic cover along the rear of the spoiler but it doesn't look like it comes off without potentially damaging it. Do you know how to remover the spoiler blade without the need for coming up from the underside of the hatch lid and all that it involves?

Might be worth a trip to RPM or your dealer - someone with PIWIS anyway.
If it is a speed sensor then that is unlikely to be in the spoiler itself - it will be either a gearbox or abs sensor.
A motor drive failure would generate a different fault code.
The sunroof fault might clear easily - it may be as simple as fully opening and closing it just like the windows in order for it to calibrate itself after a battery change. (To enable the one touch opening). Worth a shot.
PIWIS had guided faults finding - it walks you through the problem & seeing as removing the spoiler is a big job it might be worth 30 mins of diagnosis Time. You can always do the work yourself if they find out exactly what is faulty. It may pay for itself if it’s just an easily accessible sensor....
This may help if you do want to remove the spoiler anyway.

Thanks, I guess a trip to RPM is called for.

By the way on the diagram I have there is only one relay in the fuse box and it's not marked in the position of the spoiler relay. Hence I thought it might be in the plastic box I can see, but can't get to under the spoiler.

After trying to fault find, it looks like a trip to RPM @£90 +VAT an hour to get a diagnosis, I'll let you know the result.

Took the car to RPM at £117, they told me the spoiler motor has seized due to water ingress and cannot be fixed. So it's a new spoiler as the motor does not come as a separate part. New spoiler fitted is £884, so make sure all the rear wing drains are kept clear.

Now checking for a second hand unit in case anyone knows where I might find one. I've checked the net, ebay, etc, but only found one possible unit in the UK.

Going by the image on ebay it looks
like it can come apart and be repaired to save you all that money
 
Having a similar issue on a 2010 turbo. Whilst the car was still under warranty , it would not deploy, having been making a very loud cracking noise as one of the leafs folded out. Was recalibrated , and was ok for a short while but COVID hit, couldn’t get it back in, eventually did , warranty was out. Was told the mounting lugs for the drive motors had been broken, due to ‘outside influences”. Not happy in the slightest tbh. Inferring I was to blame... not the service I’d hoped for. Oh but we can fit a new one for £807, still awaiting a response regards goodwill..
 
I'm going to take it apart and have a look, I can't make it any worse than it already is. The most annoying part of all this is the audio and visual warning signal that comes on about 58mph, which then overwrites the car information screen.

To get the spoiler off the car is only about 6 bolts and cable connect. The problem is getting individual parts for the spoiler if needed, they only seem to be available as a single unit.

I'll keep you posted.
 
Exactly, you can’t break it any more . There seem to be a fair number at breakers, thing is, would you trust a second hand unit..
