twice now when i have left my car for more than 24 hours when i go to unlock it using the remote, both the key and the light on the dash flash at each other but nothing happens. so i have to use the key in the lock to open the door, it will then work quite happily to disarm the alarm.

do i need a new battery or is there a fault ?

Helen The car will go into sleep mode to save battery life when left unattended for a while, I thought it was a couple of days though... Nothing wrong with it.. as you say, simply Lock the car with the key and then you can operate it as usual. garyw

Yes normal. After using the key to unlock the drivers door REMEMBER TO THEN PRESS THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB as otherwise when you get in the alarm will go off!

Its usually a week at least before the car goes into sleep mode and you need to use the key to unlock it and reset it as described above. Maybe this can be changed by the OPC and your is set to 24 hours?

Something I've never quite got to the bottom of this going to sleep business and having to unlock with the key. If mine had been left for sufficient length of time, such that the key fob would not unlock the car, I found that just by pulling on the door handle would wake it up and then I could unlock with the fob. Or was this some sort of intermediate sleep and not a deep sleep?! Try it!

Hi Helen, the 997 deactivates the remote locking feature after 7 days. (page 18 of the manual) However, I had exactly the same issue as you with my 4S key 2. LED flashes on the dash, LED flashes on the key, car does not open. Key 1 worked perfectly. The solution was to remote unlock the car with key 1, put key 2 in the ignition and press the remote locking button on the keys remote. The remote control has worked ever since. Hope this helps!

After a couple of weeks pressing the key fob does nothing but I've found that pulling the drivers door handle and then using the key fob works - anyone else noticed/tried this?

i haven't actually tried the other key. i'll take it out to the car with me next time i leave the car for more than 24 hours. I can understand the car going to sleep after not being used for 7 days but mine seems to be doing it after only 1 day.

Doh!

Well ever thinking of you guys...[;)] Confirmed, to re-awaken the car from slumber mode after 7 days you simply lift the door handle and then the key fob operates as normal... garyw

You doubted me?[;)] I only discovered by accident. Half asleep, operate the fob, don't realize the car hasn't unlocked and pull the handle - door doesn't open. Hmmm. thinks...maybe I didn't press the fob properly so press it again and, bingo, it unlocks. Of course it took another couple of repeat performances of the above before the penny dropped as to what was going on! Certainly a lot simpler than the alternative procedure[:)]
