Stunning 944 S2 in Cornwall - anyone know it?

Very well know up until it was sold about 18 months ago or so. It lived in Amersham, near me, so I saw it regularly.

The owner at the time did masses of work, all listed there, and was a regular on Titanic and at events. He sold it at a good price as it was above average at the time. Of course, it's been out of the Club since Andy sold it but it's had 2 services and bits since then according to the ad. I'd say worth a look, service is nearly due and the belts will be three years old in August but apart from that it looks pretty good. Price is very good unless the car has really deteriorated recently.

Yes it used to be owned by one of the regulars until a few years ago. I last saw it at our Dyno Day in May 2005 where it tested to be well down on power and it was discovered the head gasket was leaking

I notice in the advert it says this was replaced in August 2005 so it looks like that was addressed shortly afterwards

IIRC Andy Mais sold it for ÂŁ6k+. It was on Pistoheads a while back at a somewhat higher price, but obviously didn't sell. My main concern would be how much time it's spent on the beach - I think Phil Imray has experience of a 944 with a sand filled sills [;)]

I'm sure it would have sold by now if it had Linen leather instead of velour interior.

Also goes to show that whatever we might like to think, even decent cars with full history in one of the most popular colours and reasonable miles, are still definitely depreciating. Still - ÂŁ1k per year is of course a fraction of what you'd suffer on any more modern car of similar performance.

And a 252bhp on the dyno?

That was the famous Jamsport Dyno where we held the first Rolling Road day. My 220bhp Turbo recorded 315bhp there with only a chip and a Boost enhancer [:)]. The next year at Weltmeister it recorded 287bhp which was a bit more realistic.

Oli's S2 would probably read 260bhp at Jamsport [:D]

Thanks for the info - it's very useful. Sounds like it's worth a call and visit to me.

FWIW mine recorded 225 bhp with an ESS de-cat last year on the 'rollers of truth' but unfortunately for some reason haven't been logged on Rick's data [:(]

fabulous car and fantastic price. Well worth the long trip I would say. Where are you going to find such a well documented provenance on an S2. its less than a couple of months wages for heaven sake[:D]

Make it a day out trip then there is nothing lost if you don't buy it

Never mind that, there is a picture of you on this guys website - make sure you get a cut of the proceeds as a royalty :ROFLMAO:

Viewed, deposit paid and collecting next weekend (probably). It's miles better than any of the other cars I've looked at, keenly priced and all the major stuff has been done so hopefully it won't have too many financial surprises. Yes I should have probably had an independent inspection done, but you know how your stomache tells you if it's a good car or not. All the documentation ties in with the comments here. I'll post some pictures soon.

fantastic dave well done and welcome to an exclusive club. [;)]
Can't be too many of these left now. I think there were less than 4000 total imported into the UK

Should be a good car. Andy Mais bought it about the same time I got mine, and he listed everything he did on Titanic so any problems were out there in public and were properly fixed. The clutch was done by the guy who was servicing my car at the time and should outlive the car, and the head gasket was a major job that wasn't done on the cheap by any means.

I'd say you have a bargain, make sure you've got an agreed-value on the insurance for at least what you paid and enjoy!

I'm now the proud owner of a 944 S2 which is sitting on my drive after an exciting day driving back from Cornwall. 5 hours in the car has given me plenty of time to get to know it and there are no complaints so far. I guess I'll know at the end of the first 12 months onwership whether I picked a good one or not, but things look promising. Expect a few idiotic questions ......

Ask away with those idiotic questions ... I've asked my fair share, and carry on doing so ...

(You may have a job and a half keeping us on topic tho'! [:D] )
