stupid question from new owner.

Helen, I believe the door itself is the same. It's just the bits that bolt to it that are different, door cards, handles etc

As far as I know 924, 944 and 968 doors are the same. 924 and 944 bonnets are the same also. Not sure about the 968 bonnet. Think that is the same also.

[:-]Thanks. I was hoping you were going to tell me the 944S2 door is very slightly bigger as mine seems to have quite a large gap all the way around, so i thought maybe it had been replaced at sometime with a door from a 924 or something [&o]

All late 924 and 944 doors are the same: early 924 doors didnt have impact bars. Early 924 bonnets dont have provision for the gas struts: later 924 and early 944 bonnets are similar. Series two bonnets (from September 1985) have their internal bracing positioned differently, where it follows the line of the bulkhead/firewall (the part has been superceed by the newer part number on PET, for those checking - along with that for the weld on badge panel).

968 bonnets are very different.

so would that make a early 924 door very slightly smaller ? (i'm living in hope, here)

Perhaps its had an early 944 & 924 style door rubber fitted? The later parts fill the gap, so they look a little different.

eta: theyre all the same size. You shouldnt worry unduly, because the hole cant get bigger...

was thinking the car has (maybe) had a hard knock which may have opened up the frame at the drivers door a little []

I know what you mean, but I doubt that that would happen. You only have so much hole, so if it gets larger in one area then itll probably get smaller elsewhere...

Do you have a photograph?

I'd be really very, very surprised if it has an early 924 door, take the time to pull the door card and you'll soon see the impact bar.

Those panel gaps are part of the charm of front engined Porsche's [;)]

Just for the record the 968 bonnet its a totally different shape to the 24/44
