Stupid question...

Does anybody else's glove compartment stick or has done in the past?

It seems to open about an inch and a half and then you have to pull it down quite firmly to open anymore and it still doesn't seem to open fully?

Any ideas?
 
Hi Jason, when I bought my 993 the glove box lid would regularly fall open. It transpired latch parts were missing. When I replaced the missing parts (a bit tricky) it took a while to adjust the (fixed) catch in the best spot. The hook part of the catch (attached to the facia) can be moved in or out by easing one of the two securing screws ( can't remember which but easy to discover. Be careful not to totally release the screw). Once eased the hook can be moved away from you or visa versa to achieve both easy opening and a firm rattle free closure. I found moving the hook could cause the latch on the glove box to bind. A bit of trial and error will find the sweet spot. If this fails it is a straight forward task to dismantle the glove box lid in the search of another remedy. Good luck.

Me again Jason. Another problem I encountered was the glovebox lid stays fouled something behind the inner box liner. Removal of the lid revealed the stays to be rather warped. Gentle bending improved their straightness and careful refitting overcame the binding problem. Doubtless refitting sometime in the past caused the stays to go the wrong side of hidden components.

UK 993's don't have this function. It is only used on US versions for smog control. The Turbo's in this country have it, but normally aspirated cars in Europe don't. Read the numerous threads on this (search under 'CEL' or 'Check Engine Light') in the Rennlist forums for loads of information about this. For the US, it's a real PITA. Be thankful we don't have it!
