Stupid Question...

(perhaps!):

My 1994 993 has no check engine light (CEL), I believe because there is no CEL bulb installed on that year. If I put a bulb in, would my CEL then work?!

I would love to have some instant diagnostics to reveal the secrets of the Bosch Motronic 2.10 system...thanks for your help
