Suggestions sought for honest, reliable used 911 suppliers

My wife and I are thinking of changing our 3.2 Carrera over the next two or three months, and would be interested in suggestions of specialist dealers locally to consider or avoid for purchasing a replacement. To give an idea of what we feel to be local, we are prepared to drive up to two hours each way.

We are looking at a 996 or 997, we find the lack of power steering and air conditioning increasingly difficult to cope with as arthritis and queues on the M25 get worse!

Any suggestions of dealerships welcome, I have looked at the list of dealers on the 911 UK site, but there is no substitute for personal experiences. We won't be returning to the dealer we bought our current 911 from, the car is good but they proved to be rather shady.

You don't have to use a dealer.

You can advertise your 3.2 Carrera here (demand for aircooled 911s is pretty strong at the moment) and, likewise, put a Wanted ad for a 996/997.

All for free, so nothing to lose - and in fact you may get someone happy to do an exchange +/- cash.

I would call Tom or Dan at 911 Virgin. I have dealt with them a few times recently and they are very honest people to deal with. I can recommend them without reservation.

I am sure they would arrange a good deal on a 996/7 against your 3.2 as they are always short on early stock.

I have dealt with a number of independents ones you pays your money you take your choice, enough said or perhaps its just me it happens to!
I would always now get an independent check usually via Porsche or my local Indy garage who I have known for many years.

Thanks for all the replies, we will definitely be getting an independent inspection irrespective of who we go with, so the hunt will start in earnest when we return from holiday!

Also consider RPM near Tring. They have a very quick turn around on cars, so are doing something right. I've been using them for servicing for around 8 years too.
