i presently have Continental Conti Sport Contact tyres on my 968 convertible all round ref:-
225/50 ZR16 N1 rear
205/55 ZR16N1 front
These have been on since I bought the car last year I'm led to believe that these are no longer available and you have to change them in min pairs and for the same make / type. Which could mean 4 with N rating
Can any body help with recomendation for tyres for general summer use only wet and dry at reasonable price.
cheers

Bob, last September I had to replace the 16" rears on my 968 cab, I treid for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics that we put on the shopping trolley in July which we are really pleased with, but could not get them in 16's so instead I fitted Goodyear Efficientgrips 225/50's. We then did 2600 miles across Northern Spain and back through France, I'm really happy with the tyres. Bought them from Tyreleader - an excellent site that gives you EU ratings for different tyres.

Thanks Chris
will have a look on net presently mine are ok but will need to change at some point. Continental do tyres in the correct sizes which they state as For Porsche with an N2 equivalent rating but this isn't noted on tyre so not sure whether I would be covered on insurance

You do not have to use N rated tyres, as long as the tyre has the same load and speed rating as recommended in the user handbook they will not affect your insurance

Hi Bob
I've used two sets of Bridgestone SO2's (must be 'N' rated, this is critical, it is for speed and Porsche approval rating) all round on my cab. I've found them to give excellent grip, wet and dry, and reasonably long life - but that depends, like any tyre, on how enthusiastic you are with your right foot ! ! I've found the best price on line from Black Circles. You order and pay for them and select an affiliated local fitter to fit them, all inclusive of the on-line price. If you would like more info on what 'N' rating is I could send you some but it might be just as quick to Google it.
All the best
Peter

Cheers Peter,
ive found that they do the same tyre as I already have on the car Ie continental conti sport contact but although on their site they indicate them as being N2 for Porsche the N ref isn't in the code on the tyre any more. Which is a bit odd.

Bob, my coupe came from the factory on Yokohamas, failed its first MoT at about 16k miles on rears worn away so owner put another set of Yokos on - and about 16k miles later I had to replace them. Put Contis on as recommended by local tyre place, ran them at the recommended 36psi and wore out the middle of the tread quite quickly, about 10k miles tops (I use a proper pressure gauge as well!). Went to Bridgestones and they were still on the car when I sold it at 64k miles!

The Cab had Dunlops on when I bought it, as I said I had to replace the rears last September, bought Goodyear Efficientgrips and am really happy with them. I also had 16" Contisports on the MB before I fitted the 17" rims with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, and the ride in the MB is superb now, much quieter than the Contis yet excellent grip wet and dry.

I never bother about the N rating for my Porsche tyres (in about 20 years of Porsche ownership!) or the MO rating for the MB, insurer has never asked anything about it, as Waylander says if you get the speed and load rating right you're OK!
