sun roof problem

Big Load

New member
hi all

when i press the button to open the sunroof i can hear the motor running and the black part next to it spinning but the roof does not open. anyone know why??

As I don't have a sunroof I can't help, but the motor mech here -

drives a toothed cable. If the motor cog teeth have sheered there will be no drive.

yah i was looking at that thread as well. I think best i take the motor cog off and have a look. Sunday job. thanks though i was thinking what you said but needed a second advise.[:)]

OK sorry just rechecked it again. the motor is spinning and I can hear her working but the black cog is not spinning. what does that mean

hi dave928
thanks for the info.

i took the clutch off (two nuts on either side of it) and the black transmission (black rubber cork). i found on both sides off the transmission it has an inner 'D' shape where the motor and clutch fit into and turn to allow the sunroof to open or close. Mine on the motor side had worn partly round and was not engaging with the transmission. quick fix[:)] i turned the transmission around where it fitted back in nicely and hay presto my sunroof works[:D]

the gap between the clutch and transmission was smaller than for the motor to transmission hence it engaged and works. ultimately i will need to change the transmission but for now i can save the £25 and use it for petrol instead
