Sun roof is not working, found the problem. After putting in the new gear, some how we wound the cord to far so its not engaging the cogs. Just wonderd if its a case of puttign a spanner on the mottor and winding it back manually?

2.5 hours and i got the sunroof to open and lock, but the rods arnt retracting to let me remove the sun roof. I guess that will have to do for now ;)

I assume you got the ignition in the right place with just the key inserted at not turned at all. [:)]
Common error as it is not often we get to remove the roofs.
Cheers,

You do want to turn the key; to position 1 where the stereo and blower start but the ignition lights are off.

Aye done that, still nothing. Might be a dead number 1 switch.

I'm happier with it like this, now i dont have to worry about it flapping when i do some... Spirited driving.

I think the procedure might vary depending on the age of the car. On my current '83 model the procedure is key in the ignition but not turned and depress the sunroof switch as if you were merely opening the sunroof. There's a very short whirring noise as the rear catches unlatch and then you unlock the two plastic locking levers at the front edge of the hatch. Job done. My early '85 model was the same. The system may have changed by the time the 'new' style oval dash was introduced.

Later models may require the key to be turned. One way to ascertain the liklihood of this is by checking if power gets to the radio with just the key in the lock but not turned.
