had my 996 for 15 months now, recently when stuck in traffic i decided to take advantage of the sun, so i opened my sun roof, all very nice, until the traffic moved, at around 35/40 mph the cabin was filled with a booming noise, so the sun roof was closed ! Just glad i did'nt open it at 80mph !!

ps still can't get comfortable! unlike the 3.2.

I've also found that closing the roof slightly makes a huge difference on my 2004 C2.
When you open the roof on mine, there is a fully open position - which is horrendous for booming & reverberating noises - and an intermediate (approx three quarters open) position - which is fine (windows open or closed).
Also - Have you checked if the spring loaded "spoiler" at the front of the sunroof is lifting as it should when the roof opens ? I found that holding it down (simulating a "stuck" closed position) increased noise levels significantly.

Hope you get it sorted,

Paul

This has happened to me on Porsche and other makes of cars. As Richard suggested, opening the window slightly seems to solve the problem.
