Anyone interested in this:-
Sunday 18 October - Meet Owl Hotel, Hambleton 7.30am then convoy to Specialist Cars of Malton for their 8.30am breakfast.
After filling up on bacon etc. convoy to Elvington Air Museum near York (departure time to be arranged later) for their Thunder Day which is the final chance this year to see & hear big jets (including a Buccaneer) fire up and take off. We will have a dedicated Porsche Display Parking Area. Along with Sunday lunch in the NAAFI.
If interested please let me know asap and I will arrange timings/prices etc.

John
(NB Convoy = vehicles travelling together in a line. ie NOT racing)

We will be going along to the Big Breakfast at Malton and interested in going on to Elvington afterwards.

Sounds good to me, was going to go to the BB in any case. Might take the Lotus for an airing before it gets sorned for the winter.

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea to me. There will be three of us either in one or two cars depending on the weather.

Sounds a good to us, we'll be there.

Elvington is a good day out, went last year. Big Breakfast probably needs about 1 - 1.25 hours only, went to the Easter one this year.

Just realised something else about this event. I have flown radio controlled aircraft for 25yrs although I did finish the hobby about 3 yrs ago. A good friend of mine still flies and is now into model jets with gas turbine engines. He will be flying with his club on that Sunday on the airfield at Elvington. I will sort something out and during the afternoon we will be able to either walk onto the airfield or drive across to have a look at the models. They are lovely pieces of model engineering and look and sound just like the real thing. Lets hope for some good weather!!

Chris

Sounds like a good idea Chris. I used to have radio controlled helicopters but couldn't find the time to fly. Been to most of the events in the past, the best one being RAF Barkston Heath and the latest was last month at Rufforth Airfield. As you rightly comment, the planes with turbine engines sound like the real thing and when in the air you'd think they were real.
Latest info is ÂŁ4 per vehicle which includes entrance to the museum etc. and we will have dedicated parking. Unfortunately the jets will only be taxiing but I think that should be enough of an adrenalin rush!
Unfortunately lunch cannot be pr-booked as will be busy, but NAAFI seats 200 so shouldn't be a problem.
I will need definate numbers asap so I can send a booking form etc.

Regards

Add me in for 1 person subject to wife's health. How do I get money to you for ticket?

Andrew W.

We can either pay in advance or on the gate (which is probably best) lunch (which can't be prebooked) will just be pay on arrival at the NAAFI
See you all at the Owl on Wednesday but may be late as meeting near Durham all day followed by leaving dinner for a colleague.
Talking about food, I wondered if anyone would be interested in Burn Hall Hotel near Alne, north of York, for Xmas dinner this year. Will bring details (it's a lovely venue)

Regards

Thanks for info. - pay on gate it is then.

Burn Hall

Been there - is v. good - don't know how far down road Ian and Sharon are on their arrangements for this year - may be too late to change?

Just found out that model flying is cancelled on that Sunday due to a motorbike meeting. I have been to these events before- called straightliners where as the name suggests bikes are used as dragsters against the clock. I must admit there is usually some very powerful machinery there which makes for entertaining viewing.

Chris

Ooh just notice the 7.30 start, sorry not doing that on a Sunday!

We might catch up with you at Malton, but who knows.

Yes, we have a problem with 7.30 at the Owl, we are at a birthday bash Saturday night.

Will go straight to Malton as soon as possible.

What time are we planning to leave Malton for Elvington? anyone any idea.

Michael and myself going but will make our own way to Malton. I wouldnt say you need to be mega early at Malton, seem to remember we went about 10 o'clock last time and that was ok. Hope to see some peeps there and then move on to Elvington together.

Cheers,
Chris

Have to say 0730 seems a little early to me - like Chris I intend to go direct now - could we meet at sandwich van c 1000 with a view to going on to Elvington in convoy at a mutually convenient time?

Thoughts?
