Sunroof Advice Please

Went to put the sunroof up today and the L/H side wouldnt move only making whiring noise.I eventually got the sunroof to open after trying the switch several times and when I went to close it I found that the roof only closed on the R/H side leaving me lopsided[&:].
In order for me to get the roof shut I had to use pliers(carefully)to help the L/H side hinge to rise in order to lock the roof down on its hinge. The release of the roof also failed to operate.
Any ideas please and is it difficult to do?[8|]
Cheers
Alan

944 fix101 I'm afraid.. Clarks Garage is the usual recommended place to look.

Basically the nylon gears strip - I guess they go brittle over time but also there is a slipper clutch on the motor to control the force applied, but that description glorifies the item. What it actually is is a couple of disks that are clamped together by a nut at a specific torque - over time they get dirty and grab each other harder than they should and therefore apply too much force to the gears.

I've never needed to do it (but may have to shortly) but the Clarks garage guide seems straight forward enough. The cogs themselves are a few pennies in the grand scheme of things so buy a spare set in case you make a hash first time [:D]

Easy... get two new gears from an OPC, then follow the Clarks Garage instructions to the letter. They are spot on!

Surprisingly easy job to do, and you all know how I'm useless at any DIY. [&:]

My only problem was the headlining all being brittle, and not easy to remove/refix.

Pick the two cogs up from your local PC. It's worth a decent coffee. [;)]

Thanks for the tip Paul. How do you get coffee out of your computer?

Oli.

Poor it into the keyboard, swirl it around a bit and then decant.

Just done mine on the red 924S-as already said, follow Clarkes Garage-however,don't assume the current microswitch settings will be correct with the new gears in situ- you may find that the roof doesn't shut down as tight as you want-you need a handheld mirror, decent LED lamp to illuminate
under & around the drive plate, also good hearing with little sound interference to hear the microswitches clicking.
