Sunroof Bag Zip...

You could also use silicone furniture polish (pretty much WD40 any way).

I am also wondering if something like baking soda might do something to neutralise the corrosion but I am only thinking out loud, I have never tried it.

You are in the position where it is pretty much dead as it stands so trying anything wont set you back any.

I find GT 85 better than WD 40 for most jobs like that-just needs patience possibly over several days- spray with GT85-let it dry a little -then rub some petroleum jelly(Vaseline) well into the zip -repeat until using pliers to grip the zip ,you can ease it to & fro a little -then try to get it open enough to rub a mix of vaseline /GT 85 along the inside of the zip,& so on.
The zip is quite sturdy as long as you tug in a straight line along the zip but don't use such force that you break the little handle.

My earlier reply to Bruce and Tony seem to be lost, which was: thank you gentlemen, I have been soaking it in penetrating oil for the last day, with little effect so far.

Perhaps mask either side with tank tape and get at the zip surface with a small wire brush or a brush on a Dremell to free up the exposed face?

I would also go for the WD40. I have released 2 by this method. It won't want to start but persevere.

I will indeed persevere. Im not sure that the Plusgas can be 'worked in' though as the zip has corroded within the fastening head - the zip itself appears to be fine.

I think on verdigris and aluminium corrosion wd40 might be better than plus gas, for freeing stuck nuts and bolts plus gas would be my preferred choice. I remember cleaning up the outside of some very furry SU carbs and was amazed at how wd40 cleaned up the surface. plus gas is a better lubricant though.

Tony

Update: the zip head moved backwards and forwards by two chunks last night.

When do I start Vaselining it?
