Sunroof foibles!

Well, I've searched the forum and the Clarkes pages, but cannot find any answers, so here goes...

Occasionally (usually when it is open, but not always) the 'serrated' curved lifting arm on the nearside pops out of its guide in the roof itself and then sits just under the guide and therefore will not pull that side of the roof down again.

I have to take a long, strong screwdriver and lever it back into the right place[&:]

Is it just a case of the guide being worn and therefore allowing the arm to slip out when I hit a bump etc, or is there something else?

I was just going to buy 2 new guides and try that?

Ta very much[:D]

Without really knowing I would hazard a guess that a tooth on either a cog or the arm is worn to the point where sometimes it catches, sometimes it doesn't. You'll need to investigate to see which part is faulty.
How is the arm when the sunroof isn't fully open?
At least it is secure when closed.

Cheers,

Fred, it works fine normally, but it is as though the arm can occasionally jump out of the slot (sideways) when jolted by a bump etc and thus lose its grip on the cogs.

Never happens when opening or closing it, just when they are extended (mainly) and car hits a severe bump[8|]

Not a show stopper, but like to get the car 'just so' for the summer[:D]

I had this problem and it was the start of my gear cogs sheering[]so I replaced both cogs and have had no problems since.

There is a sunroof guide on Clark's here http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-03.htm but it's long and tedious to read (well it took me a while). I eventually replaced my cogs, they're still not right though and apparently adjustment of the motor's clutch to the correct torque is also required. Who'd have thought, opening and closing a tilt sunroof could be so complex!?

I replaced the cogs, fiddled with the microswitches, threw the roof across the room and tore the rooflining. Still didn't work. Paid a specialist for 1 hour and it works like a dream.

I have to say that it's probably the best £50 I've ever spent on a car, wish I'd let someone with experience at it in the first place.

It had new cogs and adjustment at Hartech, just after I picked it up as part of the full monty 'peace of mind' service. It opens and closes absolutely fine, just once it is open the arm can become dislodged when hitting a bump.
