Sunroof - help!

I have an S2 (1990). The sun came out the other day, so I decided to open the top, well why not?[:D]
Anyway, it opened less than half way, then stopped. It then closed right to the bottom, no problem. Now it doesn't work at all, up or down.[:(]
With Le Mans beckoning on Thursday, I need a quick fix, if one exists, which may give me a few weeks use before I can fix it properly. (Before you suggest, a socket set hand crank is not really the option I am looking for!)
I don't understand how the motor would only raise halfway, would lower it again and now it does not work at all.
Help, I need my targa roof for Le Mans, unless it rains of course, and then it does not matter!
All suggestions greatfully received

This happened to my 944T once - it was the microswitch that the centre "prong" on the sunroof pushes on when the roof is in place. When the roof is out the contact opens and stops the motor working.

If it is this then you have a problem, as you cannot release the arms at the back if the motor doesn't run.

Try to squirt some WD40 behind the centre "prong" to see if it persuades the microswitch to close.

Someone else may have other ideas for you to try. Good luck and enjoy LeMans.

I have been a couple of times in recent years with the Club and had a great time.

A similar thing happened to me when I was messing about trying to suss out how to releast the panel for removal. My sunroof just stopped operating so I added it to my 'to fix' list. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for you as I cannot give you any useful advice, it started working again a few days later and has been fine ever since. You never know, if you keep trying it over the next few days it might miraculously start working again like mine did.

Colin, I would guess that if its not the front microswitch then one of your microswitches in the boot could have slipped out of adjustment. Print off the sunroof guide from the Garage Shop Manual at:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/

and prepare for some adjusting.

Thanks for your assistance.
I tried to remove the panel by lowering the levers, and the motor worked (thanks Scott). Having removed the panel, I then tried the centre microswitch several times, and it seems to click in and out without problem (thanks John).

Hopefully all will be well now.

Hi Colin,

make sure that the micro switches are well fixed. if they move out of position it can result in the nylon gears stripping and the cable dissapearing down towards the motor.
