Sunroof locking position

I've been having such a tough time to get the sunroof to lock by itself when closing. The arms just retract all the way and I have to press and guess through the console switch to lock the roof. Today I stripped the mechanism housed in the boot. Reading the Clarkes garage article re the locking aspect, it suggested limit switches, which I was convinced would cure the issue. However after a good afternoon of tinkering I think I understand why the roof doesn't lock. Looking at the mechanism there is a plastic piece that moves up and down the metal guide. At the bottom of the guide are two limit/micro switches, which when activated by the sliding plastic piece should stop the arms in the locked position. However it looks like a section of the plastic has become detached from the main body, so when the plastic should go back to its start position, the main body is left behind. When being left behind the plastic is pushed further past the micro switches making them open.

My question is, should the two plastic sections be as one unit? I know this is a difficult question if you've not seen the mechanism in operation. Any help appreciated.

Mine does exactly this! I knew it mustn't have been right... but I didn't want to mess around with it while it's still at least going up and down and releasing.. let us know how you get on, good luck!

When I look at the parts catalogue I can't see it as a separate item, but part of the the whole metal guide. Do you know the number?

Just been looking at the workshop manual. It refers to the plastic piece as a Drive Dog. Is this right? Is this a part you can buy separately?

Mine also has this problem but only intermittently - Seems to be worse when I haven't opened the sunroof for a while. Please post an update if you manage to fix yours.

Here is the main culprit. This little piece of plastic was broken, which in turn has damaged one of the micro switches. Plastic piece £4.50, micro switch £7.50. These should completely fix the sun roofing locking issue....

Let me know if anyone has done the same fix.

Sounds just like the problem I have, I might be stupid but couldn't find the part on their website. Could you let me know how you navigate to the relevant part to buy it?

Cheers
