Sunroof problems

so for some time the sunroof has not worked then it started working when I changed the ABS relay[:-]

so it moves from the locked position to the released position
it moves from the released position to the locked position

it will not raise passed the locked position

what I've done so far
swoped the relays over on the sunroof motor ...same effect so I'm guessing they are Ok
removed the roof and operated the microswitch this stops are starts the travel so guessing it!s Ok
fitted a new console switch

read the clarkes guide it does not cover this sinareo ....

my questions are ....would a faulty main relay cause this issue even though motor works in both direction

anyone got any ideas?

I have this same EXACT problem with an S2 just now...

..with ignition on, the roof catches will retract to allow the roof to be lifted out, and will raise to lock position again. They will not raise the roof to open position though. Switching ignition on, engine running and the roof does not work at all.

However - it did work recently. It worked going up but not coming down, I had to lower it with a wrench at the motor.. so I replaced the switch (with a used item) and I now have the above problem same as you?

Would it be worthwhile looking at our switches? Try swap the sunroof switch with one of the others, see if makes any difference. I will try the same, but I wont be with my car for a few days to be able to check this out.

I fitted a brand new switch so I'm sure that's Ok

do you have 12v on terminal A and R in the fuse box?

Mine does the exact opposite. Goes up and down, but cant be removed.

Same as mine, I'll be having a go at sorting it once I "have" to (fitting the Saratoga). Any repair ideas welcome?

Without trying to be patronising, but do both you guys know that the roof can only be removed with the engine off and the key in position 1. If you are trying to drop the latches with the key in any other position it will not release the roof, this is normal and noted in the user manual.

If you both knew that already and actually have a problem, welcome to the club! If not, hopefully I just helped fix your problem..

terminal A is the Tacho input!

so anyone with electronic knowledge should I have 12v at terminal A ? I'm thinking not?

determined to solve this by Saturday

Im just reading on Clarkes that to check the relay you should be getting 12V at terminal 2 of the sunroof switch plug (separate at the centre console), then check the relay for 12V at terminal R (ignition switch at position 1) and then terminals R and A (ignition switch position 2).

Not sure about the tacho as you mention?!

Terminal A is the tachometer input Carnot figure why it should show 12v when cars not moving

Spent all day trying to find the fault and I think I'm getting somewhere

problem with these sunroofs is multiple faults can be present so it give false results

found the following problems

rear microswitches were not making full contact, had to press them quite hard against the cam to get them to close

resistance across microswitch 11 was not as in clarkes guide on removal it was perfect open/close but in situ it was showing 5 ohms. ......not sure about this one

no voltage at the console switch........relay?

no volts at terminal A On the relay socket ??? Not sure about this as this is the tachometer input I would have though this would have become live when rolling, although clarkes disagrees

first off I'm replacing the main relay, if that doesn't work then the microswitches and if all else fails then the ignition switch
